Hammocks in highly developed countries are considered luxuries; however, their use in third world countries is extensive and an absolute necessity. Areas of extensive use are Central and South America, the Philippines and Asia. There are probably more than 100 million persons in the third world who use their hammocks as their beds and as basic furniture in their homes. When traveling, these persons bring their hammocks along.
The original hammocks made by Indians and other primitive peoples were made from drying plant fibers and weaving these into a bed. Endstrings were then attached to the bed so that the ends hung from two points. Hammocks keep native peoples off the hard ground away from insects and are a wonderful place to gently rock to sleep. They store easily when not in use. Often one finds families of 10 or more persons sleeping in the same room; in the morning they store them and
use the space for other purposes.
The Mayan Design Hammocks & Hanging Chairs and the
Brazilian Design Hammocks & Hanging Chairs are the two most comfortable and beautiful designs in existence. The American Rope Design Hammock is durable; however, this design digs into the skin and causes backaches and can tip easily, creating a potential danger. The Mayan hammock, if used properly is very effective in relieving backaches and reducing general body tension and mental stress.
Mayan Hammocks and Brazilian Hammocks can be used as attractive pieces of furniture in any room of your house. They're wonderful to lounge in, for afternoon naps, or a restful nights sleep. For students its great to read, write and study. The natural rocking motion acts as a natural pacifier for babies and adults alike. Easily
moved, your Hangout Hammock can be hung outside on your terrace, deck or in your yard, just hang from walls, ceilings, fences, posts, or trees. Also, we now have a sturdy, attractive stand for indoors or outdoors.
Mayan Design Hammocks are compact and lightweight for camping, backpacking and bicycling. They provide a much more comfortable night's sleep than pads over hard ground and rocks. Use them to regenerate your energies more quickly. The Mayan Design Hangouts Hammock is a bed woven
of thin cotton cord. A series of nylon arms extend from the bed to eyes at each end of the hammock. The cris-cross diamond shaped weave and natural give of cotton fiber creates a series of thousands of small springs able to adjust to the most subtle changes in weight distribution, and the tension spreads evenly throughout the bed to provide an effect close to floating on air. The design of the hammock keeps you from rolling out inadvertently while you are sleeping, unlike the heavy rope American Design hammocks.
The Brazilian Design Hangouts Hammock is an attractive handwoven solid cloth bed which is most popular in South America. Most people prefer the ultimate comfort of the Mayan Design Hammock, but there are those who
like the solid feel of the Brazilian Design Hammock. If hung where the hammock is used by visitors or rambunctious kids, the Brazilian Design Hammock would be less prone to careless damage. There are probably more than 50 million in use
in South America today.
All of our hammocks require little attention and can be used indoors or outdoors. However, their life can be extended greatly by removing and storing them when not in use.
Hangouts Hammocks are fun and functional. Try one and discover a new world for yourself.
